RSCDS "summer celebration" Mon 27th July to Sat 1st Aug
In lieu of the St Andrews Summer School the RSCDS has planned a week's programme of daily dance and music activities to enjoy from Monday 27th July
Each weekday evening, Monday to Friday, there will be a 90 minute programme of dance and music from 7:45 pm to 9:15 pm
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday daytimes musicians are invited to participate in a music course covering a selection of Jig tunes on Tuesday, Strathspeys on Wednesday and Reels on Thursday - links to the sheet music to prepare for this are given below, and also in our music thread elsewhere on the messageboard. This will be on the RSCDS YouTube channel, from 10:30 am.
On Saturday the week will conclude with a virtual dance, featuring a playlist of 10 dances with recaps and music recordings (zoom link and start time to be confirmed)
-----------------
Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings will be from Europe with 2 teachers each evening taking you through a mixture of technique, formations and dances. There will also be “Behind The Dance” talk, looking at the background of an RSCDS dance and previous RSCDS Summer School music courses will provide some musical moments to enjoy.
Tuesday and Thursday evenings will bring material from international RSCDS Schools as Australia, New Zealand, Canada and USA share information and musical performances as well as dances that everyone can join in.
There will also be a 10 min slot on Mon-Thur where a different teacher each night will teach one step of the Scottish Lilt, a scottish step dance (a softer version of highland) with music recorded especially for these classes by Muriel Johnstone. We’ll look at both the RSCDS and Scottish National styles of the dance, culminating on the Friday when we can all participate in this 4 step dance.

Alternatively the playlist of recordings will also be available separately for those who wish to progress through the programme at their own pace, perhaps in collaboration with others (this option is most suitable for those who are able to dance together with members of their household or at socially distanced outdoor gatherings.
